This year&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldfooddayusa.org\/agricultural_cooperatives_key_to_feeding_the_world\">World Food Day theme <\/a>is &#8220;Agricultural Cooperatives- key to feeding the world.&#8221;\u00a0One particular\u00a0strength of the cooperative lies in connecting farmers and members to one another and to the market. Connections\u00a0allow farmers to benefit from greater\u00a0access\u00a0to goods and\u00a0pooled resources.\u00a0 Cooperative members are\u00a0more likely to be\u00a0invested community members and seek sustainability in their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The FAO has a few examples of how agricultural cooperatives work: (A great line\u00a0around 4:00 the\u00a0woman\u00a0talks about\u00a0the forest as\u00a0&#8220;the children&#8217;s heritage&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/W_ne6hi4uPo\">httpv:\/\/youtu.be\/W_ne6hi4uPo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ELCA engages in\u00a0global mission through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/Who-We-Are\/Our-Three-Expressions\/Churchwide-Organization\/Global-Mission\/How-We-Work\/Accompaniment-in-Practice.aspx\">accompaniment<\/a>, a way which\u00a0sees us (the ELCA)\u00a0and\u00a0our partners as mutual participants in the body of\u00a0Christ. Working through partner church bodies,\u00a0provides a way\u00a0for\u00a0our work to be deeply effective. The connections with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/Who-We-Are\/Our-Three-Expressions\/Churchwide-Organization\/Global-Mission\/Where-We-Work.aspx\">church bodies in other countries\u00a0<\/a>mean that we\u00a0are well positioned to support local and sustainable work.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Lingson\u00a0Family story illustrates\u00a0a commitment to the local cooperative approach and reminds us that this approach to\u00a0fighting hunger and poverty works in transformative ways.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/LHNfSVI4iwM\">httpv:\/\/youtu.be\/LHNfSVI4iwM<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Best of all, this is work we can all be involved in.
