According to FAO, \u201cthe most recent increase in hunger is not the consequence of poor global harvests but is caused by the world economic crisis that has resulted in lower incomes and increased unemployment. This has reduced access to food by the poor.\u201d [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/news\/story\/en\/item\/20568\/icode\">Full report<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p><span><span style=\"color: blue\"><strong><span>The projected 1.02 billion figure breaks down as follows<\/span><span>:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Asia and the Pacific &#8211; 642 million people<\/li>\n<li>Sub-Saharan Africa &#8211; 265 million<\/li>\n<li>Latin America and the Caribbean &#8211; 53 million<\/li>\n<li>Near East and North Africa &#8211; 42 million<\/li>\n<li>Developed Countries &#8211; 15 million<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The number&nbsp;one billion can be paralyzing. But therein lies our greatest challenge: to realize as individuals we cannot help feed one billion people. But together as smaller communities, as one nation, and as a global communion of churches and citizens, we can make a tangible difference.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It\u2019s easy to get distracted, isn\u2019t it? Where does \u201cending hunger\u201d fall in your mental to-do list? Most of us make grocery lists, so try making your own \u201clife to-do list.&#8221; You can do it free-form at first, but then prioritize. If you\u2019ve got \u201cbe a good parent\u201d or \u201cmake up with Dad\u201d or \u201cgraduate college\u201d or \u201cget through this pregnancy,\u201d where will you place \u201cend hunger\u201d in that assortment of important life goals?<\/p>\n<p>Our personal and mental to-do lists can help us navigate the chaos of daily life. Sometimes we follow them fairly closely, and other times we look at them and laugh at the optimism that went into their creation. We\u2019ll get those&nbsp;household supplies&nbsp;in a few days when we\u2019re less busy. The car hasn\u2019t stopped running\u2014what\u2019s another three weeks for that tune-up?
