You can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/Who-We-Are\/Our-Three-Expressions\/Churchwide-Organization\/Communication-Services\/News\/Subscribe.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe<\/a> to the ELCA News Service and have blog postings or ELCA News releases e-mailed to you.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 130%\">Winter 2008-2009 ELCA World Hunger Resource Packet now available<\/span><\/strong> November 14, 2008 <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial\"><br \/>\nby Melissa Ramirez Cooper, ELCA News Service<\/span><\/p>\n<p>To equip the 4.7 million members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to help end hunger in the world, an <a href=\"http:\/\/resources.elca.org\/ELCA_World_Hunger-Hunger_Resources.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">ELCA World Hunger Resource Packet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\"> is now available. The packet contains a variety of resources to help Lutherans learn more about the causes of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/hunger\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">world hunger<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\"> and work together to end it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Available twice a year, the packet illustrates how ELCA World Hunger is a connected, comprehensive and compassionate program that helps individuals and communities rise above poverty into self-sufficiency, said Sue Edison-Swift, communication director, ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal. &#8220;The program is connected because because it&#8217;s relationship-driven. It&#8217;s comprehensive because there are many causes to hunger, so solutions need to be equally diverse, and it&#8217;s also compassionate because it focuses on meeting the needs of the most vulnerable,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>New resources in the packet include a congregational <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/Our-Faith-In-Action\/Responding-to-the-World\/ELCA-World-Hunger\/Stories\/By-Category\/Life-Giving-Water.aspx\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">bulletin about water<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\">; <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/Our-Faith-In-Action\/Responding-to-the-World\/ELCA-World-Hunger\/Resources\/Top-40-Resources\/Taking-Root.aspx\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">Taking Root<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\"> &#8212; a hunger education curriculum for children and youth; and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/webapps.elca.org\/hunger\/contact\/form.aspx\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">1-2-3 Contact<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\">! &#8212; a sign-up form to receive the resource packet and\/or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/Our-Faith-In-Action\/Responding-to-the-World\/ELCA-World-Hunger\/Hot-Topics\/LifeLines-Newsletter.aspx\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">LifeLines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\"> by mail. The packet also includes the 2007-2009 <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/giving\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">ELCA Good Gifts giving catalog<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\">; reproducible stories for bulletins and newsletters that show how gifts to the ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal make a difference in the lives of people; and &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/resources.elca.org\/Hunger_Resources-40-day_Calendar_God_s_Math.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">God&#8217;s Math 40-day calendar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\">&#8221; designed to raise awareness, commitment and funds for the ELCA World Hunger and Disaster Appeal and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/hunger\/swa.html\"><span style=\"font-family: arial\">Stand With Africa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial\">.
