Nevertheless, the difficulty of finding a clear Christian<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 409px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/09\/28\/140822663\/syrian-leader-digs-in-for-a-long-battle\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" src=\"http:\/\/media.npr.org\/assets\/img\/2011\/09\/27\/syria_0927_3_wide.jpg?t=1317170009&amp;s=4\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The outcome of Syria&#039;s seven-month-old uprising is far from clear. (NPR)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>position can help generate empathy for Christians seeking to navigate their communities\u2019 evolving encounters with the various regional states.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NPR: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/09\/28\/140822663\/syrian-leader-digs-in-for-a-long-battle\" target=\"_blank\">Syrian Leader Digs In For A Long Battle<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>This very interesting report from NPR highlights the profound complexities of the Syrian manifestation of the Arab Spring. Most important for our interest in the ELCA is the record of Christian public support for the Assad regime, presumably following the previous day\u2019s groundbreaking report in the <em>Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AP: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5jMKykJaFP89L5-lPl5Z-Pu2wAzeA?docId=60c79b4b8db644bea0cebf4d15a18d49\" target=\"_blank\">Egypt convicts Mubarak&#8217;s information minister<br \/>\n<\/a><\/strong>Egypt continues the long, slow process of ensuring accountability and constructing a new foundation for civil society. These sorts of convictions are important steps along the way. Until Mubarak is convicted, however, doubts concerning the next steps will remain.<\/p>\n<p>Developments such as these have provided a new context for the tensions betweenIsraelandPalestine. It remains to be seen, however, if these regional changes will help or further hinder the cause of peace.
