This is a day that highlights the work of humanitarian aid organizations and workers all across the globe. Theirs are the hands and feet on the ground during times of disaster, both natural and man-made. They bring God\u2019s hope to those most vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>On this day, we also highlight the 130 million people are living in crisis. The United Nations is pushing their <em><a href=\"https:\/\/worldhumanitarianday.org\/en\/agenda\">Agenda for Humanity<\/a><\/em>. In it, the Secretary-General is calling on global leaders to commit to 5 core responsibilities:<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2816 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons.png\" alt=\"core respons\" width=\"1013\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/disasterresponse\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons.png 1013w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/disasterresponse\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons-300x62.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/disasterresponse\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons-768x158.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/disasterresponse\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons-250x51.png 250w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/disasterresponse\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/05\/core-respons-700x144.png 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1013px) 100vw, 1013px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>End and Prevent Conflict\n<ul>\n<li>80% of all humanitarian needs are driven by conflict<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Respect Rules of War\n<ul>\n<li>90% of people killed or injured by explosive weapons in populated areas are civilians<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Leave No One Behind<\/li>\n<li>Work Differently to End Need\n<ul>\n<li>43% of people live in fragile situations. By 2030 that number is estimated to climb to 62%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Invest in Humanity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>General Secretary Ban Ki Moon said, \u201cI call upon global leaders to place at the forefront of all policies, strategies and decision-making.\u201d As church, we are called to love our neighbors and to bear each other\u2019s burdens. It is said that this is how we fulfill Christ\u2019s law.<\/p>\n<p>At Churchwide Assembly, the rev. Dan Rift, talked about communities that are experiencing crisis often feel like they aren\u2019t noticed.
