Photo by Paul Jeffrey\/ACT.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the near future, you will be meet Louis Dorvilier here on the blog.\u00a0 Louis is the director of international disaster response and a native Haitian. \u00a0He is currently using his expertise to serve his native Haitian community, working on a team from the <a title=\"Lutheran World Federation Haiti\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lutheranworld.org\/What_We_Do\/DWS\/Country_Programs\/DWS-Caribbean-Haiti.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lutheran World Federation <\/a>and <a title=\"ACT\" href=\"http:\/\/www.act-intl.org\" target=\"_blank\">Action by Churches Together (ACT) Alliance<\/a>, which the ELCA is a member of.\u00a0 Among other things, Louis is working to assess the situation in Haiti, define assets of LWF and other partners, and coordinate plans to restore daily life to those that have been affected by this tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday, we sent out an update on the situation in Haiti and how we are currently working there and in the US.\u00a0 (<a title=\"sitrep 1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/~\/media\/Files\/Disaster%20Response\/Haiti_Earthquake_SitRep_1_012210_rev.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> to see the full report.)\u00a0 Here are a few highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7.0 magnitude earthquake on January 12<sup>th<\/sup><\/li>\n<li>6.1 magnitude aftershock on January 20<sup>th<\/sup><\/li>\n<li>Estimated 100,000 \u2013 2000,000 dead<\/li>\n<li>Possible 1 million people homeless<\/li>\n<li>ELCA mobilizes $600,000 immediately for LWF, LWR and CWS<\/li>\n<li>Lutheran Services Florida Inc. receives $25,000 for emergency hardship grants<\/li>\n<li>More than $1.6 million confirmed giving received and processed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I invite you to subscribe to our blog (using the box on the right-hand side of the page), and join us to keep up-to-date on the work of the ELCA.<\/p>\n<p>Keep the people of Haiti and caregivers responding to this disaster in your <a title=\"Prayer Petitions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elca.org\/~\/media\/Files\/Disaster%20Response\/WorshipResources_HaitiEarthquake.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">prayers<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>God&#8217;s Peace, MB<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Megan Bradfield, and I serve as the associate director of international disaster response for the ELCA.\u00a0 Welcome to the ELCA Disaster Response blog!
