The Forum was co-hosted by France and Mexico and convened by UN Women, in partnership with civil society and youth representatives. Nearly 50,000 people participated in a mainly virtual format to take stock and rapidly accelerate progress towards gender equality, as outlined in the landmark 1995\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/digital-library\/publications\/2015\/01\/beijing-declaration\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Close to\u202f$40\u202fbillion\u202fwas\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2021\/07\/1095272\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">pledged<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in new investments from governments, the private sector, civil society and\u202fothers to help\u202ffund\u202fa\u202fnew global five-year action plan to accelerate gender parity by 2026. The Forum launched a\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unwomen.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=4a4c7b832288dbbd2a91f5cfa&amp;id=d02d2b1720&amp;e=5f1764eca4\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Global Acceleration Plan for Gender Equality<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202fdesigned by six\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.generationequality.org\/action-coalitions\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Action Coalitions<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u202fas well as a\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.generationequality.org\/women-peace-security-and-humanitarian-action-wps-ha-compact#:~:text=As%20one%20of%20the%20key,gender%20equality%20in%20humanitarian%20action.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Compact on Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. New gender equality initiatives focused on health, sports, culture, and education was also announced.\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">UN Women<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0will oversee the implementation of the 5-year action plan and the commitments made.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As Lutherans, we had delegates actively participate virtually, and joined over 30 global and regional faith actors in a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lutheranworld.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2021\/documents\/faithcommunique_30june21.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">joint communique<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that we turned into a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JHzwiB4TOVU&amp;t=7s\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">video<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0message. In addition, the Lutheran World Federation made\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lutheranworld.org\/news\/new-commitments-promote-gender-equality?fbclid=IwAR0uNUHbRiFzHLL7PEaihxOoFH30G0UYIIi6VuVFsjAkOe7GSZgqX5NIw94\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">commitments<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to the Action Coalition on Gender-Based Violence and pledged to accelerate efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in church and society. As these were among the first meetings with the Administration on Israeli-Palestine issues, the CMEP representatives took the occasions to raise\u00a0a number of\u00a0matters that had been\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/download.elca.org\/ELCA%20Resource%20Repository\/March-2021-Letter-to-Biden.pdf?_ga=2.39478883.1721086033.1625584158-632005366.1615907816\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">communicated<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0by their heads of churches and organization in March. Particular attention was drawn to the need for US bilateral assistance to the West Bank and Gaza to be re-started and increased, especially given the additional humanitarian needs in Gaza\u00a0because of\u00a0the intensified conflict between Israel and Hamas in May. Hideously long \u201cdebates\u201d dominated in the House as a handful of House minority members filibustered several bills. Although all budget bills were passed, the legislature came within hours of not finishing before the new fiscal year.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Clean Energy:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The Commerce\/Energy bill included the longest \u201cdebate\u201d\u00a0at roughly\u00a025 hours.\u00a0It passed\u00a070-60\u00a0in the\u00a0House\u00a0and\u00a060-5\u00a0in the\u00a0Senate.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"3\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Included: agriculture weather study (changes impacting farmers); solar for schools\/community colleges; pilot project covering old landfills (brownfields) with solar farms (brightfields); North Minneapolis training center (renewable energy jobs); Energy Transition Office.
