{"id":2545,"date":"2018-03-15T13:44:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T18:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/?p=2545"},"modified":"2018-03-15T13:44:26","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T18:44:26","slug":"lent-reflectionspirit-renewed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/lent-reflectionspirit-renewed\/","title":{"rendered":"Lent Reflection:Spirit Renewed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>By Dennis Frado, Director of Lutheran Office for World Community<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After spending many years here at United Nations headquarters in New York, I suppose I could be excused for expressing disappointment \u2013 disappointment that governments tend to give priority to their national interests instead of the global common good, disappointment that the Security Council all too often is unable to end barbarous conflicts that leave innocent civilians as casualties in their wake.<\/p>\n<p>But, thinking about Lenten renewal, each year around this time I find my spirit renewed and refreshed as we welcome women &#8212; and some men &#8212; to the annual session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Our office is fortunate to be able to host these visitors each year with the generous assistance of the Lutheran World Federation, including our member church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2546 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966-1024x551.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966-250x135.jpg 250w, https:\/\/blogs.elca.org\/advocacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/03\/IMG_7966-650x350.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These folks do not disappoint.
