LWF President and General Secretary urge parties to honor Gaza ceasefire

Posted on November 22, 2012 by Julie Brenton Rowe

The Lutheran World Federation urges all parties to honor the Gaza ceasefire and appeals for an immediate resumption of negotiations for a broader peace.

In a statement today by LWF President Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan and General Secretary Rev. Martin Junge, the LWF said that the recent conflict has cost innocent human lives and injuries on both sides. The need for a broader peace is urgent, they said.

The LWF reiterated its call for an immediate lifting of the economic blockade against the Gaza Strip, urged international efforts to relieve the suffering there and appealed to all parties to refrain from violent or provocative actions.

“The humanitarian situation facing the 1.6 million people living in Gaza is dire. Children, the elderly, and other vulnerable people have been bearing the brunt of the conflict,” the LWF leaders said.

    Well, now.

Israel has stood down, and Hamas is celebrating wildly in the streets with speechs of violent rhetoric. It “won”. They feel they won a great victory because they were able to hit Jerusalem and Tel Aviv with their new Iranian rockets. They’re not very upset at all. They got all kinds of attention. Political dignataries came and treated them with “respect”. And, so. What are they shouting in their celebratory speeches today? Oh. They promise they’re going to shoot more rockets.

On the other side. The ELCA and like-minded entities have just jolly well decided that even that first rocket aimed at that first Jewish child in southern Israel is just to be the designated sacrificial lamb…for “peace”. For that child not to be the sacrifice and her mother to pray that her nation’s citizen army stream across the border to remove her child’s cheering taunting politically calculating terrorist…well, that would just be “disproportionate”. How selfish of that mother….to even dream her child would be worth protecting.
